The 8th iteration of the smartest smartphone, Google Pixel is here. Along with the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro, Google also announced Pixel Watch 2 and Android 14 during its 2023 Google Pixel launch event.
As far as surprises go, Google has had a terrible history of keeping their devices from being leaked. And, most of what the rumors suggested about the Pixel 8 has come true. One of those was the brand-new AI integrated Camera. Before talking more about it in detail, let’s see what the Google Pixel 8 and 8 Pro have to offer.

Google Pixel 8 and 8 Pro Specifications

Here’s a quick look at the hardware specs of both 2023 Pixel devices:

Now, we all know that the Google Pixel has never been about the flashiest hardware. They’re known to show software magic that takes decently good hardware to match other flagships like the iPhone 15 that launched last month. But, that doesn’t mean Google has let the same hardware slide this year. The all-new Tensor G3 has to be the highlight hardware component this year alongside the new ultrawide sensor upgrade over last year’s Pixel 7 Pro. The Batteries have also seen a minor bump with the RAM, storage, and displays remaining the same.
But, what’s special about these new flagships from Google?

Everything New and Improved About the Google Pixel 8 and 8 Pro

Android 14 and Software Upgrades

One of Google’s main selling points is its amazing, buttery-smooth software experience. With the Android 14, the Pixel 8 has new features like accessibility options, security improvements, and customization. The most notable features of Android 14 are the notification flashes, built-in health connect app, and better hearing-aid support.
Talking about Pixel 8 exclusive features, there’s a new camera feature called Best Take. It takes multiple photos and uses AI to combine them to get the best shot, hence the name. So let’s say you’re taking a photo and some people’s faces are not correctly captured. Using multiple photos, the feature will automatically adjust and edit those faces.
Sticking to the images, Google is also using generative AI for their new Magic Editor tool that can reposition, resize, and completely reimagine a photo after it’s shot. Other than that, the Google Assistant gets better this year. You can now use it to summarize web pages and read text aloud while automatically translating it. The Gboard also features better suggestions for proofreading your texts.

An Improved Camera Set-up

Google already has a tried-and-tested recipe for a great camera, as it has been one of the best in the industry. Some would even argue that Google’s photos are better in some situations when compared to the iPhone or Samsung’s Galaxy S23. This year’s camera has a few minor hardware upgrades to make it better.
The Pixel 8’s 50MP primary sensor has a wider aperture at ƒ/1.68 to take in more light. The ultrawide lens has a larger FoV to bring in more of the background without distorting the image too much. While that is a decent upgrade, the Pixel 8 Pro has an even better ultrawide sensor at 48MP along with an even wider aperture than the Pixel 8.
When it comes to the front cameras, the Pixel 8 doesn’t see a notable quality upgrade. However, they now have Class 3 biometrics which gives them the same security class as the fingerprint scanners. So, you can use both, fingerprint and face unlock with equal security for banking and locking your phone and apps.

Tensor G3-Powered Performance

Since its introduction with the Pixel 6 in 2021, Google has used the Tensor G-series processors that they designed and Samsung made. Each year, Google has announced unique software and camera features that were only possible thanks to their Tensor processors. This year’s Tensor G3 enables similar software features that we discussed earlier. It also has a next-gen ARM CPU along with an improved GPU and a next-gen TPU. All of these upgrades in the performance will improve camera quality, battery life, and day-to-day usage. However, it is worth noting that the tensor G3 is still nowhere near Apple’s A17 and Snapdragon Gen 8 processors.
Apart from the processor, everything is exactly the same in terms of storage capacity and memory. The battery life is expected to be slightly better considering a slight bump to the capacity and processor improvements.

Minor Display and Design Changes

The Google Pixel 8 and 8 pro have a 6.2-inch FHD and a 6.7-inch QHD display respectively. Both of them offer slightly better displays than last year. The Pixel 8 now offers a 120Hz refresh rate compared to the 90Hz of the Pixel 7. The Pixel 8 pro now has the capability to use a variable refresh rate from 1Hz to 120Hz. Other than that, both displays have slightly higher peak brightness.
The design hasn’t changed much at all from the Pixel 7 with the same camera bar on the rear top. However, unlike the Pixel 7 Pro, the Pixel 8 Pro no longer has a curved display. Some people loved it, some didn’t. Lastly, there are 2 new color options in shades of light blue and pink color.

The All-New Google Pixel Watch 2 – New Sensors and Better Battery

Along with the Pixel phones, Google also announced the Pixel Watch 2 during the launch event. The 2nd generation smartwatch by Google saw major upgrades over the previous model. It has a new processor, an overhauled sensor array, added safety features, heart rate zone training, and Wear OS 4. The new processor will also increase the battery life to about 24 hours with an always-on display.

Google Pixel Watch 2 and Google Pixel 8 Price – How Much Will the New Toys Set You Back?

For the past couple of years, Google has tried to sink its feet in the higher-tier market just under the ultra-expensive flagship level of Apple and Samsung’s top models. And, they’ve nailed it with the pricing for both of their offerings this year.
The Google Pixel 8 and 8 Pro will cost around $699 and $999, respectively. Whereas, the Google Watch 2 will go for $349.99.
At these prices, the Pixel 8 makes for a great high-end phone if you’re okay with a slightly less powerful processor. The growing use of Google’s AI solutions is also a great start for the smartphone.
However, the $300 difference between the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro doesn’t offer that much to make it a no-brainer upgrade. Are you in the market for a new smartphone? If so, let us know if this year’s Google Pixel caught your eye.

September 4. To mark the occasion Google took ‘a walk down memory lane’ and showcased different doodles. Today’s Google Doodle presents a GIF that turns ‘Google’ into ‘G25gle’.
Google wrote in its blog post— “For our birthday, we’re celebrating in ways you might have come to expect over the last quarter-century. Our homepage doodle today honors the evolution of the Google logo, and if you search for (or hum) birthday-related queries, you might see a little surprise.”

CEO Sundar Pichai’s Thoughts on the Google Anniversary

A month before the Google anniversary, he penned about reaching the milestone and how it is an enormous privilege. He also appreciated the contribution of their employees, partners, and most importantly, all the people who use their products made the company a technological success. This 25th birthday also signifies 25 years of curiosity as that’s what fueled the company and it’s progress.
He also explained this sentiment by taking the example of Google Images. After the Grammy Award ceremony of the year 2000, people rushed to Google to find pictures of Jennifer Lopez’s dress. Since there were only blue links and no photos in the search results of the celebrity, Google wanted to find a solution for it. The engineers in the organization brainstormed, and Google Images was born. Google Images provided access to find that particular photo faster than ever before.
Pichai further added, “It’s a cycle that has repeated itself at Google time and time again over the last quarter century. Whether you want to learn how to knot a tie or plan where to tie the knot, stay healthy, or stay informed — each chapter of our story has been co-authored by you.”

A Journey of Innovation and Adaption

Doctoral students Sergey Brin and Larry Page met in Stanford University’s computer science program in the late 90s. They quickly learned about their similar interests in making the World Wide Web a more accessible place.
The pair worked relentlessly from their dorm rooms to make the prototype for a better search engine. As they made progress, they moved the operations to Google’s first office, a rented garage. On September 27, 1998, Google Inc. was officially born, which is celebrated as Google Anniversary with creativity and innovation.
The company mentioned that much has changed since 1998 but the mission has remained the same. The mission is to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful. Google always introduced technology with innovations and upgrades which helped users adapt them well. They also thanked the users and added, “We can’t wait to see where the future takes us, together”.

Google announced on Tuesday that it is incorporating its AI chatbot Bard into applications like YouTube, Gmail, Drive, Maps, Docs, and Google Flights. This will allow users to partner with the chatbot via the Bard extension to the aforementioned services.
Yury Pinsky, Bard’s director of product development, said, “For example, if a user is planning a trip, Bard can check Gmail to see what dates work best then check flight and hotel information, then Maps for directions to the airport and YouTube for suggested videos of things to do during the trip.”

Using Generative AI Capabilities For Tailored Response

Google confirmed that Bard can use generative AI capabilities to provide tailored responses by using data from the web. This was later made available to all users to test the bot’s capabilities. Now the company is extending similar capabilities to the Google apps and services.
Bard is integrated with all these services and can use data from them as and when required, depending on the query and needed responses. Google also said Bard is getting better at creating and customizing responses. Also, they have improved the ‘Google it’ feature to double-check Bard’s answers.

How Will Bard Function?

The updated Bard will search and display answers by finding the crucial data across all the services and giving custom answers. It will also be able to get data and provide relevant information on flights and hotels.
When working in Google Drive, users can ask it to search for any specific file or document. For example, you can ask Bard to search for a specific report from December 2022, and compile it into a short paragraph.
Google pointed out that the data used will not be accessed by human reviewers, Bard to show ads, or used to train the large language models. Additionally, users will also have the option to choose how they want to use these extensions or turn them off at any time.

Chat Collaboration on Bard

In times when users want to share chat and access conversations with AI chatbots with friends or family the most common thing you do is provide a link. Google is now making it easy by adding a new update for Bard. When a user sends a conversation by a public link, the receiver can continue the conversation with the chatbot and even ask additional questions about the topic.
Google is also growing access to the existing English language features. This will include the ability to upload images with Lens, get Search images in response, and modify Bard’s responses to more than 40 languages.
With this new power-up for Bard and under-development AI tool ‘Genesis’, Google seems to be setting itself up for market domination. What are your thoughts on the new Google Bard Features? Let us know in the comment section.

Google has been working on deploying some industry-leading Android features. The company was emphasizing this in its 2023 I/O event by announcing changes to its ecosystem for new security improvements. Google said it is delaying the broad expansion of its Find My Device function out of concern for personal safety. This is because the feature doesn’t live up to the industry standards Google and Apple have set.

“User safety and the prevention of unwanted location tracking is a top priority for Android,” said Google’s Erik Kay in a blog post today. “At this time, we’ve decided to delay the Find My Device network rollout until Apple has implemented protections for iOS,”

Google’s Commitment to Security Features Since the 2023 Google I/O Event

Back at its Google I/O 2023 keynote, Google disclosed plans to use millions of existing Android devices, compatible peripherals, and a new generation of Bluetooth item trackers to assist in finding your lost electronics. That’s because the implementation sounds quite like Apple’s Find My Network. Initially, this more extensive Find My Device network was supposed to be introduced over the summer.

Google has now chosen to hold off until Apple also implements unknown tracker alerts. This is something Apple already does for its own AirTags, and ultimately those alerts will also be able to distinguish between trackers that use Google’s Find My Device network. But we’re not there yet, and it appears like Google wants to delay the release of new trackers until both significant mobile platforms can find them.

The goal of Apple and Google’s initial joint news release was to “release a production implementation of the specification for unwanted tracking alerts by the end of 2023 that will then be supported in future versions of iOS and Android.” So, Google’s early summer estimate for the larger Find My Device network was too ambitious.

Speaking of unidentified tracker notifications, Google has announced a new security feature starting this month. Android phones will now start alerting users when an unidentified AirTag is found to be traveling with them. This comes as a clear intention to separate it from the owner. In other words, you will be given a helpful heads-up if someone is attempting to covertly follow your location without your consent. This is a built-in, system-level prompt and won’t call for the download of any other apps.

New Date for Update

The fact that this new privacy and safety feature will be widely accessible for phones running Android 6 and later, is possibly its best feature. This is due to Google Play Services receiving a software upgrade that adds alerts for unknown trackers. Therefore, you should be able to benefit from this new security measure even if your phone isn’t receiving significant Android updates anymore.

Google prioritizing users’ safety and delaying its update is a good sign for Android users in the market. Because you can always see the iOS advertisements making fun of the Andriod security features. Let’s see how Google makes of the extra time it’s seeking for the update. So far, Google has not given a new launch date for the robust tracking network.

A new evolution is taking place in today’s era i.e. AI evolution. The only reason everybody is betting on the AI industry after the Open AI game-changing tool ChatGPT. Evolution is good in every aspect, but it also brings some other destructive things with it. Hence, AI regulation is important for the masses.

For the same, the Biden administration will hold a meeting to collect “voluntary Commitments” from 7 of the top AI firm developers to attain shared security and transparency goals ahead of a planned Executive Order.

Since Open AI’s tool ChatGPT, the AI Industry has been moving at lightning speed. Everybody including journalists and the White House has been worried that it should not get carried away. The Top AI Companies will be taking part in the non-binding agreement and send their representatives to the White House to meet with President Biden today. The Names of the companies are OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Inflection, Microsoft, Meta, and Amazon.

To be clear, no rule or enforcement is being suggested here. The agreed-upon procedures are entirely optional. However, if a business avoids a few, no government agency will hold it accountable, and it will probably be public knowledge.

Following is a list of members to visit the White House:

  • Brad Smith, President, Microsoft
  • Kent Walker, President, Google
  • Dario Amodei, CEO, Anthropic
  • Mustafa Suleyman, CEO, Inflection AI
  • Nick Clegg, President, Meta
  • Greg Brockman, President, OpenAI
  • Adam Selipsky, CEO, Amazon Web Services

The Guidelines and Suggestions Made

The above seven firms and others who want to join have committed to the following:

    • Before release, AI systems undergo internal and external security checks, including aggressive “red teaming” by independent specialists outside the company.

    • Information on AI threats and mitigation strategies (such as preventing “jailbreaking”) should be shared between the government, academia, and “civil society”.

    • To safeguard private model data like weights, make investments in cybersecurity and “insider threat safeguards”. This is crucial not only to safeguard intellectual property but also because an opportunity for malicious actors could arise from an early widespread release.

    • Help third parties find and report vulnerabilities, for example, through a bug bounty program or a domain expert analysis.

    • Create reliable watermarking or another method of marking content produced by AI.

    • The “capabilities, limitations, and areas of appropriate and inappropriate use” of AI systems should be reported. You’ll have a hard time getting an honest response to this.

    • Prioritize research studies on societal dangers like systematic bias or privacy concerns as a top priority.

    • Create and implement AI “to help address society’s greatest challenges” like cancer prevention and climate change. (However, it was mentioned in a press call that the carbon impact of AI models was not being monitored.)

Even though the above-mentioned actions are optional, it is easy to conceive that the threat of an Executive Order, which they are currently developing, exists to encourage compliance. For instance, the E.O. may create language instructing the FTC to carefully examine AI products that claim robust security if some companies refuse to permit external security testing of their models before release. (One E.O. is already in effect and requests that agencies be vigilant against bias in the creation and application of AI.)

A Step Towards Responsible AI Development by Leading Companies

The White House wants to be ahead of the next AI revolution by monitoring and understanding the AI threats that may come along with the massive wave of technology. Both the President and the Vice President have met with business executives to seek their input on a national AI strategy and are allocating a sizeable amount of funds to new AI research facilities and initiatives.

Also, this is a good move to safeguard the beneficiaries along with a hope to control the AI revolution. If attained, it will be a fall well handled!

Google is testing a product(Genesis AI) that uses Artificial Intelligence technology to produce news stories. Now the company is pitching that AI product to the news organization as stated by sources familiar with the matter. News Organizations such as The New York Times, The Washington Post and The Wall Street Journal, News Corp are amongst the ones that Google is in contact with.

Genesis is the rumored name of the tool, given by internal people working on it. It can take in information and produce news material (for example, specifics of current events). It was specified by the people on the condition to keep anonymity.

Google believes Genesis could serve as a personal assistant to journalists by saving their time to focus on other important tasks. The company believed it to be a responsible technology that might help lead the publishing industry away from the threats of generative AI.

Some Comments on the Topic

Google spokesperson Jenn Crider said in a statement to the Verge “In partnership with news publishers, especially smaller publishers, we are in the initial stages of exploring ideas to provide A.I.-enabled tools to help their journalists with their work”. She also added these tools aren’t intended to replace the essential role of a journalist in reporting, creating, and fact-checking their articles.

Professor of Journalism and Media Analyst Jeff Jarvis said the new tool from Google has potential benefits and drawbacks as described.

News organizations are still in a dilemma about whether to use AI tools in their newsroom. In a News Organization, where seconds are worth millions there is no chance of errors because their reputation is at stake.

Many publications including The Times, NPR, and Insider, have informed staff members that they are exploring potential applications of AI. In order to determine if it might be wisely applied to the highly charged field of journalism.

Should News Organizations Use AI?

AI enables users to produce content on a larger scale, which, if not carefully reviewed and verified, may disseminate false information and affect how people view stories that have been traditionally published.

While Google has developed and used generative AI at an astounding pace, the technology has also brought significant difficulties for the giants of advertising.

Many prominent A.I. firms, like Google, have come under fire from publishers and other content creators for exploiting decades’ worth of their articles and postings as training data for their systems without paying the authors. NBC News and The Times are two news organizations that have spoken out against AI programs stealing their data without their consent.

As Space Invaders turns 45, TAITO and Google are working together to build a brand-new immersive augmented reality game. In it, you will be able to defend the Earth from your IRL surroundings.

Google has partnered with many Games in the past. But this partnering with Taito for Space Invaders is a special one. Google on its official blog has announced their partnership. The Game will be available on IOS and Android.

Google collaborated with Unit9 and TAITO, the creator of the classic game “SPACE INVADERS,” to use augmented reality (AR) to turn the world into a playground in honor of its 45th anniversary.

How Does It Create the Gaming Experience?

The game’s engine is powered by ARCore and Geospatial API, which uses the player’s immediate surroundings as well as neighboring structures, landscapes, and other architectural features to create fun levels both in the real world with AR and only on the screen with 3D. The realistic gameplay adjusts to the player’s real-world circumstances, including place, time, and weather.

Just like Pokémon GO, the player in this adventure must travel through the city streets to defeat the alien invaders and score points. You can gradually unlock new skills, compete with friends and other gamers, and share the scores on various social networks.

How to Play and Earn Rewards

Players can look around their neighborhoods to find more Space Invaders and destroy them to gain points. They can get unique power-ups, and compete with friends for the highest score nearby. And, they can share their accomplishments on social media with an AR selfie.

The physical and digital worlds coming together changes how people play, learn, and engage with content. Brands and content producers can make their content more approachable and give users a completely new perspective on the world.

Google has just released Geospatial Creator, which enables developers, designers, and animators to quickly create and distribute realistic location-based AR experiences using Unity and Adobe Aero without having to write any code.

So, want to help save the planet? Join the elite Earth defending force by downloading the Space Invaders game for Android and iOS and competing in your neighborhood for the greatest score.

Google Bard in its latest update has included 40 more languages and many more. From voice integration to seamless integration from Google services, Google has made sure to include all in its AI chatbot Bard. You can now use Bard in additional languages and nations, customize responses, add images to your prompts, and do a variety of other things.

Bard’s History

Google Bard, a competitor to Open AI’s ChatGPT, was launched on March 21, 2023. Since then, it has been constantly updated by the company. The platform has received an update on boosting the user’s productivity and receiving customized responses. Bard is constantly working on making itself better than its competitors. It has increased its reach by being available in the most widely spoken language.
Let’s have a look at the new features that Google has added to Bard.

More Customized Responses

You may now listen to Bard’s comments starting today. This is very useful if you want to hear how to pronounce a word correctly or listen to a poem or script. To hear Bard’s responses, simply type a prompt and click the sound icon.

Bard’s comments can also be altered in five distinct ways: basic, long, short, professional, or informal. You can use the drop-down to shorten Bard’s response when you request it to write a marketplace listing for an antique armchair. This functionality is currently available in English and will be expanded to other languages shortly.

Boost Your Productivity

After listening to the users, Bard enabled the option to go back and review prompts. When you start a topic, the sidebar now includes options to pin, rename, and pick up recent discussions. For example, if we ask Bard to compare summer sports, it goes back and evaluates its opinion afterward.

Additionally, the use of Bard for coding jobs continues to be popular. So, in addition to Google Colab, Google Bard will be releasing a new feature on the 13th of July. It’ll allow you to export Python code to Replit.

Further in productivity improvements, sharing a portion or all of your Bard talk with your network has been made simpler. You can share your thoughts and projects with others by using shareable links.

A significant element of how we use our imaginations is through images. Google announced at I/O that it will be integrating Google Lens features into Bard. This will allow you to upload photographs with prompts and Bard will analyze the photo to aid you. Whether you want additional information about an image or just need help coming up with a caption. Unlike other features, this is only available in English, and it will be expanded to other languages soon.

Final Word

Technological advancements are happening every single day, new updates are being rolled out each day, new competitors are coming, and whatnot. Each platform is trying hard to be more customer-centric by providing them with the best they can. What do you think about these new updates? Will Google’s Bard be able to capture more market share? We’ll have to wait and see

After 4 years of Samsung’s first foldable, Google entered the market with its first foldable phone, Pixel Fold. The Google Pixel Fold is available in the market from June 27. It is a treat for Google enthusiasts because the hype for the phone was long made. Google started accepting the preorder of Pixel Fold on May 10.

In this article, we will review it for you and help you decide whether you should buy it or wait for the next pixel folding phone, or maybe just go with a leading foldable like Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 4.

Google Pixel Fold Features and Specifications

Design:

Google Pixel Fold has revolutionized the foldable phone market with its 0.2 inches thick display. This feature makes it easier to operate apps and text on the front panel, making it a second display rather than a preview. The device weighs 0.625 lbs. Which is slightly heavier than the Galaxy Z Fold 4. It features a 7.6-inch display when opened.

The fluid-friction hinge on the Pixel Fold ensures smooth operation and durability, but the device does not unfold completely flat. While the Pixel Fold can withstand immersion in 1.5 meters of water for 30 minutes, it is not waterproof or dust-proof. The device is available in porcelain and obsidian colors, but its durability should be considered as it may be easy to damage the inside display.

Display:

The Pixel Fold features dual OLED displays with a maximum brightness of 1,000 nits, offering a wide viewing angle and consistent 120Hz refresh rates. The panel’s exterior display is brighter, with a maximum brightness of 1,172 nits, surpassing the Galaxy Z Fold 4’s 870 nits. The smaller external display is better for framing shots, while the interior display is adequate for viewing films and showcasing photos.

Software and Usage Modes:

The Pixel Fold offers a user-friendly multitasking experience with its intuitive design. It features a dock for quick access to apps, split screen mode, and easy switching between apps. Samsung keeps the dock visible, but the overall approach is clean and intuitive. The Pixel Fold offers various modes, such as TV mode for watching videos and tabletop mode for a more ergonomic experience. Google has optimized its apps for the large screen, and third-party developers have also contributed to the device’s multitasking capabilities. Google’s Gmail, TikTok, Spotify, and Slack are some of the best-performing apps on the Pixel Fold.

When you have apps that don’t appear squashed, a split screen is excellent. To avoid switching between multiple apps, I used Chrome and Telegram to send my partner recommendations about where to get dinner. Having these capabilities just makes the simple things so much easier, even if none of this would have been hard with a typical phone.

Camera

Google’s I/O 2023 showcased the Google Pixel Fold, featuring five cameras in the foldable phone category. The Pixel Fold offers a high-quality camera experience with Real Tone and Night Sight. It features a 48MP back camera, 10.8MP ultrawide camera, and 10.8MP telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom and 20x Super Res Zoom. The 9.5MP front camera and 8MP internal camera are also included. The 5x optical zoom lens provides excellent details and clarity, while the Google Photos app offers unique photo tools like Magic Eraser and Photo Unblur for sharpening pictures.

Battery

The Galaxy Z Fold 4’s 4,400 mAh battery is less than the 4,821 mAh battery in the Pixel Fold. Unsurprisingly, that change was sufficient to have the Pixel Fold outperform its major competitor in our test, lasting 10 hours and 21 minutes. In contrast, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 ran the same test for 9 hours and 17 minutes.

Our testing in the real world revealed that its battery life was likewise good. With the Pixel Fold, a full battery will provide you with a minimum of 3 quarters of daily use. It means you have to charge it twice a day.

Performance

Overall, the performance of the Google Tensor G2 chip is great in the Pixel fold. It uses the same Google TensorG2 chip, which was used in the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. Google needs to fix the app opening structure because it is a bit of a headache when it comes to the overall experience.

Price

The base variant with 12GB, 256 GB RAM would cost you around $1,800. The top variant costs $1999.  Since it’s Google’s first folding phone, it would have made more sense to keep the price lower. Nonetheless, the price is set and it’s up to you to see if you can afford it.

Verdict

Foldables of the first generation are hard. Unlike Motorola’s or Samsung’s initial foldable experiments, the Pixel Fold is far from a failure. But such businesses have worked out many of the issues now that they are several generations old. It’s a fun gadget, but it would probably work best for someone who doesn’t mind carrying around a lot of weight and frequently consumes entertainment on a big screen when traveling. You’re better off waiting to see what the next generation has to offer if, however, it sounds more like a nice-to-have than a need, as it did to me.

Since its inception, ChatGPT has grabbed everybody’s attention and it is widely used. However, DeepMind, a Google-owned research group, believes that its next huge language model will rival – if not outperform – OpenAI’s.

Gemini, a chatbot that competes with ChatGPT, was developed by DeepMind. It uses the same AI concepts as AlphaGo, the company’s AI system that became the first to outplay a skilled human player in the board game Go.

Gemini Capabilities

Gemini combines reinforcement learning and natural language processing to outperform ChatGPT.  And according to DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis, Gemini will be able to plan, solve issues, and analyze text if all goes as planned.

Hassabis claims that “Gemini at a high level, can be thought of as combining some of the strengths of AlphaGo-type systems with the incredible language capabilities of the large models. We also have some fresh developments that will be rather fascinating”.

“Gemini is supposed to develop new skills such as planning and problem-solving. We also have some innovations that are going to be pretty interesting,”. Hassabis Adds Up, Gemini is still being developed and will take several months, hundreds of millions of funds may be needed.

Wired’s Will Knight suggests Gemini uses reinforcement learning for challenging language models in Google’s I/O developer conference. Reinforcement learning instructs AI systems to display specific behaviors by rewarding or punishing undesirable ones.

It’s crucial to remember that DeepMind has tested language models before Gemini. Last year, the company launched Sparrow. A chatbot it claimed had a lower propensity than previous language models to answer user queries in an unsafe or inappropriate way. Hassabis told Time in January that plans to release Sparrow for a private beta. At some point this year are still on track, but it’s unclear if they are.

However, Gemini appears to be DeepMind’s most ambitious space project to date, if early reports are to be believed. According to a March article in The Information, Jeff Dean, Google’s most senior AI research officer, has a direct role in Gemini, which was inspired by Bard. Google’s chatbot project fell behind ChatGPT. Bard was Google’s attempt to develop a chatbot.

The Field of AI is getting crowded with different players coming into the AI space with each passing day. But, as of now, ChatGPT remains the go-to AI tool for users. But it’s worth seeing whether DeepMind can disrupt the market.
